All I could think right through reading this is the surveys we have to complete at my work, rating our managers, their involvement, their complimenting us, steering us and whether we feel supported by them. I hate those surveys with a vengeance, especially since we get feedback, and then suddenly the manager ups his game because the survey results require it. I would much rather have him showing interest in me because he wants to, and not because it's expected of him...
