Back then it was yes, he is now 33, and despite things we know now were 'signs' of his autism, we didn't know it, and the teachers didn't flag it either, like they did with my grandson (he's 11 now). I have heard of more people who only found out they are on the spectrum way into their adult years, and then I mean 30's and 40's. Part of this is because those lower on the spectrum learn to 'cope' looking at behaviors of others, so the older they get, the less 'signs' there might be.
