I have tears in my eyes at the end of this piece. Thank you for all these words. I am from South Africa and grew up during apartheid and yes, I am white. I never understood apartheid and never understood (and still don't) why the white man thought those in African countries need saving. Who gives them the right to decide about the lives of people different than them? But you have said all of this a lot better than I can ever do. Thank you for writing this!
