I mentioned having to draw a timeline. This was a year and a half after my mom had passed, and after I had stayed at her side for 5.5 months and switched off my own feelings. I saw her die, saw her last hours as life drained from her, and didn't realize how it had traumatized me. When I started looking for a tree to smash my car into, I knew I needed help. Eventually I had EMDR, and she said I needed 3 sessions but after one session it broke everything open, and from then on I could finally feel my grief and start to heal. I still cannot tell you what exactly happened in that session, I only know it helped.
